    Support the Lab

Your generous support of the  Immunogenetics and Transplantation Laboratory helps scientists to discover new treatments and cures.

    Education

A core mission of the Immunogenetics and Transplantation Laboratory is providing educational programs that leverage the knowledge and skills of the laboratory faculty and staff and its state-of-the-art resources. Each year the lab offers several short courses to train students, fellows, and healthcare professionals.

    Short Courses for Healthcare Professionals

Histocompatibility Testing for Blood and Marrow Transplantation

This is a two-day course focused on histocompatibility testing for blood and marrow transplantation.
It provides an overview of the laboratory methods and their application in blood and marrow transplantation with didactic lectures, case studies, and laboratory observation. Conventional and state-of-the-art laboratory assays are discussed. This course is most appropriate for physicians, fellows, and coordinators.

Histocompatibility Testing for Solid Organ Transplantation

This is a two-day course focused on histocompatibility testing for solid organ transplantation. It provides an overview of the laboratory methods and their application in solid organ transplantation in conjunction with case studies. This course is most appropriate for surgeons, physicians, fellows, and experienced coordinators.

Histocompatibility Testing for Coordinators in Solid Organ Transplant

This is a one-day course focused on basic aspects of histocompatibility testing for solid organ transplantation. This course provides an overview of routine tests used for solid organ transplantation, delineates specimen requirements, describes test limitations, and provides case studies to illustrate utilization of test results.

There are no course fees for attendees from transplant centers that routinely use the laboratory's services. Cost of travel, lodging, and food are the responsibility of the attendee.

    Training in Histocompatibility Testing

The laboratory has a one year formal training program for clinical histocompatibility scientists that is approved by the State of California. This course is appropriate for laboratory technologists.

The laboratory provides training for histocompatibility laboratory directors through programs for directors in training and visiting scholars. The director training program is two to three years.
